The 90s were a golden time for the animation studios at Disney. Animation legends such as Howard Ashman, Alan Menken, Glen Keane, Andreas Dejas, and many others truly shined. In 1991, Beauty and the Beast was released, becoming an unprecedented box office and commercial success. The film earned five Academy Award nominations, including one for Best Picture, a first for an animated work, also winning for Best Song and Best Original Score. The following year, Aladdin was released. The movie earned two Oscars and nearly 500 million worldwide at the box office, as well as establishing a trend of hiring celebrities as voice actors.
In 1994, Disney released The Lion King. The movie featured and all star cast and songs by Elton John. The Lion King earned $768 million at the worldwide box office, and even more in merchandise. During the production of the movie, a lion and her cub, as well as some other african animals were brought in to the studio for the animators to study.
